Bloomberg: AirPower available in September with a “scaled-down version of iOS”
Mark Gurman responds to the age-old question, “is that fina has made the AirPower of the Apple?”: according to his sources, usually very reliable, the wireless charger of Apple will be available in September.
As reported by Bloomberg, according to Mark Gurman, Apple is solving the last technical issues before starting the mass production of the charger AirPower:
Apple has not yet said when it will release the AirPower in the course of 2018, but the engineers were hoping to fix all the problems with hardware and software before June. In that case, the wireless charger would be launched at WWDC 2018. The solution is, however close, and now we expect the device to be officially launched in September.
Apple has presented for the first time, AirPower, together with the iPhone X in September 2017. At the time, Apple said that the device would be launched in early 2018, and then remove the phrase “the early months” from the official website.
The hardware problems mainly related to the chip custom designed to manage the loads for each paired device. This chip also performs a “scaled-down version of iOS“. These are the words of Gurman:
The charger AirPower is more advanced than the competition current, because it has a chip custom Apple that is running a reduced version of the iOS operating system. This operating system manages the power and the pairing with the devices. Apple engineers have also worked to solve the bug related to the firmware of the device.
At this point, it is likely that AirPower will be launched at the end of September alongside the new iPhone.
Recall that AirPower uses the protocol of Qi and is capable of charging up to three devices at the same time. The base is also able to detect the position of the device to better manage the load. Currently, all of the other chargers wireless Qi let you charge only one device at a time. With the AirPower we can then reload at the same time iPhone (X, 8, 8 Plus), Apple Watch Series 3 and the new AirPods through its housing. The devices may be placed in any point of the pad. Qi is based on the induction between two coils which provide the appropriate power to the device that requires charging. The base station contains a transmit coil that generates an oscillating magnetic field that, in turn, induces alternating current in the field of reception. AirPower does not use position-specific, as instead happens for the other bases on the market. Remember that, even with the use of the protocol Qi, AirPower can be used only with Apple devices.
