Waiting for Blade Runner 2049, today we launch into a curious theory on the film of the 1982

Blade Runner 2049 for has finally arrived. Just a few hours, a few lucky has already seen, but there is no doubt that the result of one of the most beloved science fiction movies will become in the next few days, one of the topics most fiery of the world nerd.

Before entering the room, however, there would have to confront a discourse that for a long time, wedged in the discussions that dealt with the arrival of the film of Villeneuve: how to explain the presence of Deckard, the character played by Harrison Ford?

Blade Runner is a film that has generated a real mythology since its not too acclaimed, debut.

The passage in the cinema film directed by Ridley Scott, in fact, was not a success; a large part of the reputation it enjoys is born with the passing of the years, especially thanks to the question of the real nature of Deckard.

Although in the end the same, Scott has clarified, as Deckard has a job in the skin, many today still are not totally convinced of the thing (even with the detail of the red eyes).

Today we will try to prove without a shadow of a doubt that Deckard is actually a replicant, also opening a question on how I could still be present inside of the Blade Runner 2049.

First of all it is necessary a clarification: as with every film, the ideal would be to watch the film in the original language, because often the translators adapt the dialogues to the enjoyment of the viewer, but at the risk of losing part of the narrative context of the film, because Blade Runner, as we shall see, is an example.

Let's start from the beginning.

As we know, Rick Deckard is called into service to hunt down a team of the Nexus 6, which has already claimed a victim, agent Holden. Of this group of works in the skin in the film we know Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), Leon Kovalsky (Brion James), Pris (Darryl Hannah) and Zora (Joanna Cassidy), and then four of the six. Bryant, presenting the task to the blade runner, claims that one of the two missing has been withdrawn after having been killed trying to get to the Tyrrell. And the sixth?

The sixth could be the blade runner, as it suggests the rest of the film.

We analyze the figure of Deckard. Throughout the film there is not a single citation to its past, to a previous life. The only vague allusions to his past are his voice narrated (added later, not originally foreseen and present in only one of the many versions), and his apartment.

But the home of Deckard is studiously dark and messy, not to perceive the meaning of emptiness, the absence of personality, as if there were a mirror of those who live there. What abounds are the photos dated, but they do not portray never him, or if we are not to be taken as: the presence of these photos is an important detail.

The photos are memories, images of a moment that we can relive by simply looking them over. Tyrell says, during the Voight-Kampft of Rachel, which are a tool that seeks to give a structure to the memories grafted from the original game. Not for nothing, Leon complains about not being able to recover his photos from his apartment.

The relationship between memories and Replicants is one of the telltale signs. As Deckard revealed to Rachel its nature svleandole his memory of the spider, we know that the dream of the unicorn is an alarm lamp. During the escape of Rick and Rachel, outside the apartment, Gaff leaves one of his origami unicorn. It is not a case, let us accept it, but a clear sign that Deckard is a replicant.

And if it was the sixth replicant, the one referred to throughout the film, you forget?

By accepting this hypothesis, we also review the role of another character, which we know from a few days, will return to the Blade Runner 2049: Gaff.

It is obvious that the hunter played by Edward James Olmos is obnoxious, annoying, sometimes it seems stubbornly hard against the blade runner, perhaps because, from the beginning, is aware of his true nature? If Gaff is the true Blade Runner, referenced in the title of the movie?

If we think about it. Gaff there, it seemed like the idler pulley Bryant, yet always follows the blade runner. Is he going to recall it to the service and accompanies him to the police station, the escort then to Tyrell.

The blade runner we are constantly presented by Bryant as the best on the square, yet in the first stages of the film is guided almost step for step in the investigation, in addition to being flanked by Gaff, which seems almost a mercy. A person with a disability who is the mercy to the best hunter of work in the skin? It seems strange.

What seems suspicious as ever, if Deckard is so good, Bryant considers appropriate to explain the thread and sign all the context of the escape of the six Replicants and the incident of Holden, without leaving to the investigator the possibility to reconstruct the case, investigating, or simply by providing him with a dossier, as to the test to apply to Rachel.

In fact, this meeting between Gaff, Deckard and Bryant could have another purpose: check that the coupling of the memory of the blade runner has had a good outcome. Throughout the film it is said that Deckard must retrieve five works in the skin, but in the end withdrew only four. The sixth may not be Rachel, that from the very beginning we know to be a superior model to the Nexus 6, and it is always note to Eldon Tyrell.

The sixth replicant then could be said Deckard, let's think about this.

The Blade Runner has lost his best agent (Holden), she needs to track down the fugitives as soon as possible and risk a new agent it would be dangerous. We can speculate that if a replicant is fried against the defenses of the Tyrell Corporation, another has been captured, and be reprogrammed with a memory fictional to become a hunter of replicants?

And so Deckard is no longer the hunter but a weapon for hunting, a tool. Like the replicants, on the other hand. It would also be in line with the philosophical structure of Blade Runner, to think about it.

To give us a potential support of this theory, there are also some attitudes of prey blade runner. All the Nexus 6 seem to almost recognize Deckard: Zora in the club recognizes him (an ironic as soon as you see, absent in the Italian sound), same thing Pris (to the video hangs up immediately), and even Leon seems to recognize him from his expressions while leadeth him into the crowd.

If this seems to us a little forced, back on our friend's Gaff. Surely, he knows that Deckard is a replicant, but why not collect it? Maybe, because he has no information on him on his date of entry and expiration date (made for more or less four years, thanks to the limiter telomerico), and then knows that in the near future, Deckard will not be a problem.

This choice of Gaff, a view of the internal of this theory, it makes me re-evaluate the character. He could have easily pick up Deckard and Rachel, two works in the skin instead of one, but prefer to leave them the possibility, the illusion if you like, of a fragment of ‘real’ life. So he knows where to find them, knows that time is their enemy.

Found that Gaff is the real blade runner and Deckard a simple tool (and rivalutiamo in this sense, is mologo on the roof of Roy), it remains to be clarified how it is possible that Harrison Ford is back playing the role of Deckard, visually aged. This answer is waiting for us in the hall, starting from tomorrow.
