Birds of Prey: the screenwriter speaks about Batgirl and Harley Quinn
Working closely with the manufacturer of Birds of Prey and star Margot Robbie for the next movie of the DC's Extended Universe, has recently spoken of his love for Harley Quinn and Barbara Gordon.
“I'm in love with Harley, makes me laugh, but also makes me cry... he Has such an emotional depth that is completely countered by this lightweight outer, superficial and fun,” said Hodson to the Los Angeles Times. “This makes it so interesting and much more real, because that is how people are in real life. Very few people are simply heroic or simply evil, and she has this wonderful balance”.
The director Cathy Yan revealed last week to have been attracted by the project after having appreciated the humor dark and the empowerment of women present in the script of Hodson.
And, after Joss Whedon left the project in February, Hodson was chosen to replace it, and write a movie about Batgirl in April.
“She has all the features that I love Batman. I have always been more interested in the human things and supernatural monsters. The people are capable of a good deep, but also a profound evil,” explained Hodson. “The things people will do when put in a corner are amazing, terrifying and wonderful at the same time, and this attracts us to these primary sensations – good and bad – and this to me is so fascinating.”
Directed by Cathy Yan on a screenplay by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez and Ewan McGregor. The release is scheduled for the 7th of February 2020.
