Big Little Lies: Season 2 could be the last
Despite its popularity, the show's executive producer is not sure that there are still stories to tell in the lives of Madeline, Celeste, Jane and all the others.
At the end of the first season of Big Little Lies, even if there is a sense of a closure, the threads are not fully resolved, and the second season will explore the consequences of the events that are held earlier in the year. The second season also introduces Meryl Streep in the cast as a character that will add, undoubtedly, a certain friction with Nicole Kidman. In fact, the audience can almost be sure that the season will close the series the same as the future seasons of the show are not assumable.
According to Vulture, executive producer of Big Little Lies, with David E. Kelley has revealed that the show will probably not have a third season during the panel of the TV Critics Association in California. He explained that at the moment there are news on a third season and that is more than satisfied with how it ends, season 2: “there is a plan now. We like our closing at the end of the second season, then it will probably be so”.
The rest of Big Little Lies, was never destined to overcome the first season. Had to be a limited series that tells a single story in a single season, even if it were, narrative threads loose (and, if there were, it was likely to remain unresolved voluntarily). In fact, it was the strong fan support to convince HBO to renew the show. The quantity rarely equals quality, and if the creators of the show are convinced that two seasons is all they need to tell the best story possible, then so be it.
Big Little Lies, will debut with season 2 in June on HBO.
