Barclays: “The program of replacement of the battery may cannibalize the sales of the iPhone”
According to analysts at Barclays, the rising demand for replacements of the batteries to be part of iPhone users could adversely affect Apple.
A study conducted in recent weeks by Barclays shows that the average waiting time for the replacement of the battery on the iPhone are down to 2-4 weeks, compared to the 4-6 weeks required in the past. If this is a good news for users, not for Apple.
According to analysts, increase the availability of the batteries for replacement could mean fewer iphones sold. And also the average selling price of iphones may decrease. The fact that it is now possible to replace the battery at 29$ and bring new life to the iPhone may in fact convince a lot of users not to sell their old iPhone and keep it still for several months. Also this aspect may contribute to the contraction of the sales of the iPhone in the first months of 2018, as confirmed also by other studies.
For analysts at Barclays, the programme of battery replacement could cost Apple up to 16 million iphones sold in 2018.
