Artificial intelligence arrives where can not the man: it provides where you fall on the lightning
Predict when and where lightning will strike is no longer a perspective, sci-fi, thanks to a new algorithm developed by the Polytechnic university of Lausanne (Switzerland) that allows you to take advantage of the Artificial Intelligence for this purpose.
The algorithm in question is based on the use of meteorological data traditional, such as atmospheric pressure, air temperature, wind speed and relative humidity; the research team has correlated all of this information with the map of lightning strikes recorded in the 12 years from weather stations in switzerland, in order to create a predictive model that can anticipate where and when will fall the lightning within an area of 30 kilometres radius.
At the moment, the algorithm is able to predict events with 10-30 minutes of advance and its accuracy stands at around 80%, thus providing results that can be useful to predict any electrical storms. But not only, seen that the algorithm can also be integrated within the european project LLR (Laser Lightning Rod), through which it aims at the creation of a system of lightning protection by exploiting the laser technology. The top of the range smaller and pontente on the market?
