Apple Watch Series 3, stripped from the teardown of iFixit
After the iPhone 8, the team of iFixit has performed the teardown of Apple's new Watch Series 3. The device has the same form factor as the previous model, but what changes inside?
The display is not changed with respect to that of the Series 2, with the only fundamental difference that now also serves as the antenna frequency to the cellular network. According to the information shared Apple, the smartwatch 3 series support LTE networks and UMTS networks.
The battery in the model 38mm with GPS + Cellular has a capacity of 270 mAh to 3.82 V, hence a slight improvement compared to that of series 2.
Apple has stated that the models of Series 3 with support to the mobile network provide 18 hours of charge, including four hours on LTE, and 14 hours when connected to an iPhone via Bluetooth.
The eSIM (the LTE version of the Apple Watch Series 3, is distinguishable for the particular red on the crown digital, ed.), the production of which would take care of ST Microelectronics, is positioned in proximity of the Wi-Fi module, produced by Broadcom, and other chip RF that enable the support in the cellular network.
In the end, iFixit has “discovered” what is the small hole located next to the diagnostic port is a small air duct.
Score iFixit respect to the repairability of the Apple Watch Series 3 is 6 out of 10. The display and the battery could be replaced easily, the same however can't be said for the internal components.
