Apple: notch's farewell, the display is (partially) transparent | Patent
If the notch of the iPhone do not like, might soon get his "replacement" is much less visible. He shows a patent filed by Apple back in 2016 and approved yesterday by the USPTO, titled "Display with light transmitting windows." The documentation describes the solution as
a screen composed of a matrix of pixels with diodes which emit the light beams for the formation of images. The panel is composed of a substrate with circuits of thin film transistors in order to provide signals to the diodes that emit the light. The anodes can be placed on such circuits, and the material emissivity can be placed on the anodes to which is superimposed a layer of the cathode. The current can thus flow between the anodes and the layer of the cathode to illuminate the diodes.
In this way, Apple provides the possibility to place the different components below the substrate with the circuitry, including light sensors and proximity. These sensors would remain so hidden behind the "window" (v. name of the patent) - preferably more transparent than the rest of the panel, but would retain the ability to "see" beyond the panel receiving light from the outside (perhaps with the aid of anti-reflective layers). It makes at the same time necessary that the circuits do not interfere with the correct operation of the sensors, and for this reason, the design of the solution process requires particularly delicate. The best display on the market and a fantastic design?
