Apple may soon say goodbye to iTunes LP
Apple seems determined to close down the iTunes LP section of the iTunes Store where you can buy albums with extra content, such as booklets, videos, lyrics, photos, interviews and more.
iTunes LP has never been very popular, so much so has never been optimized for iPhone and iPad. Suffice it to say that this particular format of iTunes is in circulation for almost ten years, but to date only about 400 albums have used it.
Now, it seems that Apple is going to stop the support for iTunes LP. The news was leaked in these hours, after sharing an internal email that Apple has sent to its partners on iTunes:
Apple will no longer accept new publications about iTunes LP, after the end of march 2018. The LP's existing will be withdrawn from the online store during the end of 2018. Customers who have previously purchased an album containing an album of iTunes can still download the additional content using iTunes Match
Apple advertises this format on its web site and has not been withdrawn, the API TuneKit to create albums with extra content. It is likely that all disappear in a few weeks.
