Apple is with Samsung on the price of the OLED panels for the new iPhone
As reported by DigiTimes, Apple is negotiating with Samsung to obtain a reduction of the price of OLED panels supplied by the Korean company. The negotiations come as Apple prepares to start production of two new models of iPhone OLED, whose release is planned for this fall.
Currently, it is estimated that the OLED panel represents about one-third of the total production cost of an iPhone X. for this reason, according to reliable industry sources, Apple asked Samsung to lower the price per unit from 110 to $ 100 considered the pieces to be produced. The californian company, in fact, is willing to buy up to 100 million OLED panels Samsung this year, 25 million is dedicated to iPhone X and 75 million for all other models of new generation.
Two hypothetical reasons behind this request: lower production costs could mean the price of the finished product is the lower; or it could mean higher margins for Cupertino.
In 2017, the OLED panels Samsung purchased from Apple have been about 50 million. The negotiation, this year, could be facilitated by LG Display that, if it should become Apple supplier, it would help the company to get the lower price from Samsung.
