Apple increases the price of numerous models of iPhone in India to offset the increase of import duties

Following the recent news of the government of india in respect of an increase of import duties, Apple has increased the price of the iPhone models 11 and iPhone 8 sold in the country in order to compensate for tariffs more expensive.

According to reports, the indian government doubled import duties on the assembly of printed circuit boards from 10% to 20%. At the same time, the import duty on the battery charger for smartphone has been increased from 15% to 20%.

Apple has announced the increase of prices of some of its iPhone models in India, with almost two percent from Monday, due to the increase in customs duties following the announcement in the budget of the Union in 2020. A PCB serves as the basis for the key components of the iPhone such as processors, storage and memory and usually represents about half the cost of a smartphone.

Apple has worked for years to establish a presence in India. In a recent shareholders meeting, Tim Cook has confirmed the company's plans to open an online store in India in 2020 and a retail store in 2021.

In August 2019, India eased rules that had prevented Apple to offer its products in the shops of the first part and in the Apple online Store. So far, the sales of Apple devices in India have been available only through third-party retailers, because the rules and regulations on foreign investment have allowed the company to sell devices in the country.
