Apple has joined The Thread Group, a group dedicated to smart technologies in the home. Although there are no confirmations on the motivations that have pushed Apple in this direction, it is possible to assume that this is some project for the improvement of HomeKit.

Threads is, essentially, a new network mesh standard that aims to simplify the work of the various technologies, products, smart home. Thread is designed to support various devices ranging from household appliances, climate control and lighting, security, access control and more.

The analyst IHS Lee Ratliff explains that Apple's decision to join The Thread Group may indicate a desire to renew and improve HomeKit. Google and Nest already support Threads, as well as Amazon. Ratliff note that the accession of the Apple to the group, it could mark “the beginning of a convergence” of various platforms of home smart.

Waiting for official confirmation from Apple, which might explain his entrance into the group, we can only stay with a few assumptions. Clearly, we will update you as soon as we know more about it.
