Aging: researchers discover how to slow it down
Aging, according to a study conducted by the University of Minnesota, could be counteracted. The researchers were able to improve the health of damaged cells, which are defined senescent cells. The experiment was conducted on older mice treated with Fisetin, a natural substance found in fruits and vegetables. Positive results were also obtained when the treatment was initiated in the late ages.
Robbins, one of the authors of this research, he discovered that fisetin is able to reduce the presence of damaged cells from the aging process. The cells when they reach high levels of damage undergo a process known as cellular senescence.
The immune system is able to eliminate these damaged cells. However, with the passing of time this system of elimination it becomes increasingly less effective, and these cells which start to accumulate, they cause inflammation of low level. Researchers have discovered that fisetin, administered to elderly mice, it has improved the health and length of life. In this sense, said Robbins:

Researchers using flow cytometry mass and applying it for the first time in this research on the ageing, have drawn some useful indications. In particular, Robbins concluded that:
“In addition to demonstrating that the drug works, this is the first demonstration that shows the effects of the drug on specific subsets of these damaged cells within a given tissue“
