A “new” iPhone every 3 years, this is the new line of Apple?
The various rumor coming from China seem to confirm that the iPhone 7 will have a design almost identical to the iPhone 6 released in 2014, a sign that the company is perhaps changing approach towards these update. If first large-scale renovations – and design – took place every 2 years, now we might have to wait 12 more months...
The thesis is confirmed today by the magazine Nikkei, one of the most followed in the whole of Asia. According to this report, Apple would have decided to do renovations consisting of the line of his smartphone only every 3 years: year-on-year, the company will propose the hardware innovations, however important, but the new design and other features that are most important would be made only every 36 months. In practice, in view of the already attained maturity in the market of processors and iOS software, annual updates may not be so relevant for this large change could be brought only after a longer period of time.
Nikkei confirms that the iPhone 7 will be almost identical to the iPhone 6, with small improvements such as the processor refurbished, camera, better performance, water resistance, and a battery that will last longer. Should be removed also the audio jack 3.5 mm. Great changes there will be only in 2017: OLED screen, new design, probably the screen edge-to-edge and Home button integrated into the display via Force Touch.
If this strategy were confirmed, it would be the right way for Apple? Difficult to answer, the fact is that the competition is going to look, and every year offers smartphone innovative features more and more interesting. Of course, the design is not everything, but the average consumer looks at this also, and repeat for the third year in a row the same smartphone (aesthetically) could be counter-productive...
