A look at the 2019: Philadelphia Eagles
We offer a review of the season 2019 of the thirty-two teams in the NFL, expectations, results, future. Today is the turn of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles were on the starting blocks as one of the teams most complete and competitive in the entire league. With a solid defence and an experienced front and a Carson Wentz to the 100% protected a-line impenetrable and ready to launch to a fleet of pass catchers given by PFF with the best of the league, the team of Doug Pederson was given by many as one of the favorites in the NFC, if not actually pick to win the second Super Bowl in three years.
As in the city of brotherly love, things rarely go as they should, the season of the Eagles soon became schizophrenic. The team has repeatedly been on the brink of elimination from the playoffs, returning very close following the defeat outside of Miami, and the subsequent record of 5-7. At that point, despite a series of tragic accidents, the Eagles have put together four consecutive wins, managing to overcome Dallas leading the NFC East and reach the playoffs. The season ended when, five minutes from the start of the Wild Card against the Seahawks, the discussissima beating Jadaveon Clowney has forced Carson Wentz to abandon the game.
As pointed out by Zac Ertz in this cinematic call to arms, the Eagles never die. Also this year proved to be a team that makes it to the maximum when he has his back to the wall, answering present in all of the decisive confrontations, starting with the victory at Green Bay in Week 4 until the streak the final of four consecutive victories, obtained without 4-5 of the receiving corps holders (DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffrey, Nelson Agholor and, in part, Zac Ertz) and without the two-Or-manages the best, Lane Johnson and Brandon Brooks. From this point of view, what the Eagles were able to do was incredible, if we think that in the field there were carneadi as Boston Scott, and Gregg Ward Jr or rookie thrown into the fray as the Running back Miles Sanders, fundamental in the end of the season.
The main part of the credit if divided, however, Doug Pederson for having joined the group, and Carson Wentz as he has commanded in the field. For the quarterback of the Philly 2019 was the decisive year, in which he managed to drive away the ghosts of Nick Foles and the contract really heavy, signed in the offseason. To tell the truth, Wentz has struggled a lot in the middle of the season, when it looked like reeling in the midst of the criticism and boos at Lincoln Financial Field.
This video dates back to the darkest moment of the season-Wentz, the defeat of the internal against the Seahawks
But the way he dragged an attack decimated to a placement the playoffs, forced him to silence the critics more fierce.
The Eagles have never justified the hype that had accompanied during the offseason, and the reasons are several. Number one, the injuries in the attack, too many and too long to allow for a high level production. In particular, the injury to DeSean Jackson, who has taken away the only real threat deep at the disposal of Wentz, has caused a domino effect on the passing game, which has been barren for a large part of the season and has forced Ertz to the extraordinary. Offensively the Eagles have also paid the bad rookie season of JJ Arcega-Whiteside, too immature to contribute immediately in the role of wide recevier.
In according to lugo, many of which, including me, had underestimated just how inadequate the department play cornerback of the Eagles that, because of the performance indecorose of the various Maddox, Jones and Darby has come to give at least 3-4 games.
Make the playoffs in a season cursed is in itself an amazing feat, possible only to very large teams. After enjoying the first Super Bowl, however, the environment has a hunger for success in the post season and hardly will satisfy again a place in the play-offs. Hoping in a better luck, and in an offseason that fill in the main gaps of the roster (WR, DB and LB), the Eagles have everything in order to stay competitive.
Is the news of the last hours that the Eagles have signed Darius Slay, the great play cornerback with the Detroit Lions, but they have also lost Safety Malcolm Jenkins, the leader of the team and the player is difficult to replace because of his skillset very particular. The offseason is still long, and between what remains of free agency and the draft Philly will have to move the pieces right to resume the hunt for the next Lombardi Trophy.
