Facebook does not seem to consider the issue of end to end encryption as a priority for its products, at least according to what emerged from a long post recently published on the company’s official blog. The date mentioned does not represent the maximum period within which this fundamental step will take place, but it is the most optimistic scenario: end-to-end encryption on messenger and instagram direct is a long-term project and will not be completed until an imprecisated date of 2022, at best. This is what emerges from the post, which however keeps us remembering that messenger already has a form of end to end encryption if you choose to make a secret chat.

In the course of 2021 additional additions could arrive (maybe new features per instagram?,) but the default and complete activation of the encryption is still far away.
