Huawei has recently put on the market a new variant of the P30, Pro, flagship of the last year we have already seen in all the sauces, and on which the company still wants to bet, given that it is the last high-end to be arrived in the market with services and Google app.

On Huawei P30 New Edition, there are 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory, along with the elegant coloring of the Silver Frost. In summary these are the differences that separate it from the classic P30 Pro, but the question I want to answer is: “it is worth thinking of purchasing this device born with a project 2019?” Let’s find out.

Leaving for a moment by the build quality and the appearance let us focus on the technical specifications, the true crucial point in time when you go to purchase a product that is relatively “old” project. Taking into account that Huawei P40 Pro is a great example of how it should be a top of the range in 2020, we can take a look at the main differences with the predecessor, but let’s for a moment keep the camera to which we will devote a paragraph.

This is what I weighed more after having tried a large part of flagship 2020. On the P30 Pro there is, in fact, the usual FullHD at 60 Hz AMOLED screen, which is a great display, attention, however, you will clearly perceive the difference with the array of 90 and 120 Hz of the new products. On P40 Pro was also slightly increased resolution, as well as this I liked even if in proportion to impact less on the overall quality.

Missing the 5G, which would not be conceivable for a flagship 2020. This is a problem or not is to be decided according to your needs, my example does not see it as a priority. Considered, however, that it will take a couple of years at least before to truly take advantage of the 5G, and that some of the top 2020 have a 5G still incomplete.

Between the Kirin 980 and the Kirin 990 does not change the architecture, and there are more that another boost frequency. The core-less strong are even better on the previous model, while the A76 are driven high for P40 Pro. Moral of the story? Changes very little if not nothing in terms of reactivity.Expanding, however, the comparison with a flagship with Snapdragon 865 then the gap is higher, especially thanks to the graphics entrusted to a Adreno GPU 650.

Overall, therefore, for using quick-and-dirty day-to-day mail, social networking, navigation, photos, calls, and little else to use P30 Pro is not so different from the experience that you have with one of the new flagship brand of 2020. By the way, have you already seen our confrontone?

Between me and Huawei P30 Pro has never taken the spark, I’ll admit. But I have to say that this color Silver Frost is of a refined elegance. We have already seen in the review of the compact Huawei P40 and makes really good live.

The build quality of the Huawei P30 Pro is comparable to any high-end product released in the last few months, is water resistant with certification IP68, the materials are noble, the finishings are very accurate.

Drinking water resistance and summer, Huawei P30 Pro is one of the few smartphones with a dedicated accessory to the underwater pictures, a sort of cover diving helmet that allows you to capture underwater scenery with an amazing quality. There we talked about last summer and is now located in attractive prices, I leave you the link to the article.

This product does not make me crazy the size and front design, and in particular the teardrop shape of the notch front with the camera, now almost abandoned in favour of the holes more or less large. If we really want to say the truth, however, so much the better so that pachidermico double hole P40 Pro, or am I wrong?

I post here a second aspect that I’ve never been convinced to the bottom of this smartphone: the audio. The smartphone is equipped with a special system called “acoustic display technology that allows you to eliminate the capsule in the headset and take advantage of the small vibrations of the display to emit sound.

This makes the volume in call is not particularly high, and on the other obliged to give up the stereo and hands-free calling and multimedia content. Without a doubt, I would have preferred a more classic, because roughly all of the new flagship 2020 are improved – a little – on this aspect.

Don’t be fooled by the value, expressed in mAh of the battery module, it would seem even a little sacrifice compared to the several a 4,500 mAh battery that we have seen in the last few months. In reality, Huawei P30 Pro is currently one of the smartphone with better autonomy in high-end.

The optimization hardware and software on a this kind of product is unbeatable and for once, the longevity of the project is an added value. I was able to use it almost always for two days, with 7 hours of active display without making sacrifices. This autonomy in the past had made me choose P30 Pro as a smartphone for the honeymoon trip to Cuba, in that case I had the possibility to choose between all the top 2019 and I had a few doubts.

You have to contextualize well this paragraph, because mentioning the presence of Google services on an Android smartphone is a bit like pointing out on the moisture of the water. Unfortunately, however, owing to the increasingly problematic relationship between Huawei and the USA, we find ourselves even having to specify this feature.

Huawei P30 Pro New Edition, like the P30, the Pros of the rest, fully enjoy the presence of the applications and services of Google, they receive timely security patches, and updated to Android 10 with EMUI 10.1(patch is currently updated to April, we expect those of July). Without a doubt this makes a big difference inside the ecosystem, Huawei, especially if we consider that the current P30 Pro is the best smartphone in the catalog of the giant chinese-based GMS and not HMS.

Let’s start from the technical data of Huawei P40 Pro:

  • Rear camera:

    • the main 40MP, f/1.6
    • wide angle 20MP, f/2.2
    • telephoto 8MP, f/3.4 with zoom hybrid 10x
    • ToF sensor
    • the main camera and a telephoto lens with support for Dual-View recording video simultaneously)
  • Front camera:

    • 32MP, f/2.0, support HDR+

It is obvious that looking only at the specifications, we can safely assign it to one of the flagship 2020, on the other hand, taking as a comparison P40 Pro, the differences are not so significant. The main sensor switches from 40 to 50 MP, but loses in brightness, the wide angle is the one that has made the biggest jump, on the telephoto is back again a periscopico with optical magnification 5X, same as the TOF sensor, depth and identical camera the front.

Therefore, if we look at the quality of images and versatility of use, Huawei P30 Pro has nothing to fear compared to the new arrivals, in fact, can take advantage of a software that has been improved and refined. For example, is never wrong in it’s focus, it is very quick in the shot and there is a good uniformity of colors among the three sensors, all the weaknesses of the P40 Pro, to name one.

Always talking about quality differences with devices like the Xiaomi Mi 10, Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, OnePlus 8 Pro are very minimal, and in some cases even the P30 Pro that can do better.

If you want to find the limits of this package, I would say, certainly the video, there is a nice deviation from the P40 Pro and is back also in respect of the flagship of Samsung and OnePlus, are not available on 60 fps for 4K, which has now become the standard of evaluation on the high-end.

The wide angle is in line with some competitors while on P40 Pro has made a nice leap forward, the same goes for the selfie, well, but there are several products that do it better.

Huawei P30 Pro New Edition has been launched at 849 euro (remember that it has 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage), a positioning’t attractive considering that the twin P30 Pro is almost half the price. In fact now is already in the promotion on the official site at 749 euro and I give the Freebuds 3 (value 179€) or a wireless charger.

If you don’t want to have so much space, also consider the P30 Pro classic, which shares all the rest of the specifications for which are valid the considerations expressed in this review.

A smartphone that is worth taking into consideration for some of his skills, autonomy, and cameras on everything, took at the right price can give you great satisfaction and save you quite a bit.

If compared to the flagship, the price difference is an important topic, what to say of the new mid-range with Snapdragon 765? It depends on the requirements, personally I’d trade the 5G with a more high quality construction, water resistance and best picture, but come into play other considerations, for example, with regard to the future support of the software: here P30 Pro has a one year disadvantage.
