Since last year, the mission OSIRIS-REx NASA will proceed with the long phase of analysis of the surface of the asteroid Bennu, which will continue through the spring of 2020, while in the autumn should be the attempt of withdrawal of the samples with mode touch-and-go. The mapping work carried out was very accurate and already last year we proceeded to the selection of the primary site, which is located inside a wide crater about 140 metres: according to the observations may be rather recent, thus offering the possible samples are less exposed than others.

Nevertheless, good sites to try to collect samples of the asteroid for return to Earth are numerous, among these there is one called Osprey that has been selected as the location of the reserve in case the first were to encounter problems. NASA has recently chose to publish an image of the site of collection, composed of a mosaic of 347 photos collected from the Polycam and put to get this result.

The reconstruction was carried out following a step of the reconnaissance took place on the 26th of may, just 250 metres from the surface and the closer made today. The collection site is located in the lower part of the mosaic and is easily identified, specifically, the exact point is just above the central spot slightly darker.

To the left of the central spot is visible, a mass of white elongated shape, from which was baptized with the name of Strix Saxum; to have a dimensional reference. it is enough to know that measure approximately 5.2 metres. The last useful data, The entire mosaic is rotated so that the east of Bennu is in the upper part of the image.

The mission OSIRIS-REx is scheduled to make his first attempt to collect samples from the primary site Nightingale on the 20th October, we will continue to follow developments.
