As already stated by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us Part II will present more than 60 different accessibility options that have the purpose of helping the game to attract an audience as wide. For the occasion, the sound engineer and Robert Krekel has shed light on some of the accessibility options related to the sub audio.
By publishing a post on Twitter, Krekel said that The Last of Us Part II can be played and completed using only the audio as a reference. The team has spent a lot of time to create a system that helps players who are blind or visually impaired so that they too can play for the title. “It’s amazing the operation,” he wrote on the social networks. “To make a small example, I was able to successfully complete the sessions of fighting with a blindfold, including the killings of stealth and dodging in close combat”.
The Last of Us: Part II also uses a speech synthesis system that, according to Krekel is opening a new road for video games. “We have implemented a speech synthesis system full and we made sure that it was compatible with all of the words and phrases needed,” he said. This speech synthesis system is localized into different languages from English, although Krekel has not provided a list of supporting languages. “I am extremely proud of the work done to make our game accessible to anyone who wants to play,” he said.

Krekel has praised and thanked the consultants who have worked with Naughty Dog to implement these features. However, the study did not focus only on The Last of Us Part II, promising that the next titles will be more accessible. “We will continue to evolve and improve these systems that will be implemented in our future projects. The goal is that anyone should be able to play our games because the games are for everyone”.
We remind you that The Last of Us Part II will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4 on June 19.
