A few days ago, in the course of the transmission of TMW Radio Around Women’s Football, stepped in to Elena Linari, the defender of Atletico Madrid women and the Italian National team: many of the themes touched by the kicker, including that of the culture of Italian football.
That was not acceptable in toto by Thomas Becagli, president of the Florence and San Gimignano. This is the official note given on the page Facebook of club: “we don’t often respond to people who express opinions about us, in the first place for a reason and elegance. But this time I think that it is opportune to reflect on the words that Elena Linari has dedicated us. Linari, who has the merit and the honor to represent, in the blue shirt all the Italian women’s football, has recently released an interview where he has expressed on the current limits of our movement.

Elena Linari said: “The Italian women’s football is lagging behind because the average Italian lights on Rai Sport and does not see names of teams that geographically placed. […] All of the teams should be identified and explained by the male, also to give protection to the girls. If you call Orobica, Essex and Florentia normal who lack the resources if it comes to a pandemic such as this. If your name is Fiorentina, Juventus and Roma not happening”.

There are some observations to make. The most important one regards the issue of protection, because the phrase may slip a little beyond the limits of the permitted, to the defamation charge. After the great resources that we put at the disposal of the Italian women’s football, investing in facilities, expertise, marketing and, above all, in welfare for the athletes, we do not intend to suffer in silence this abuse. In the same way, of course we do not intend to fail in our duties of protection towards the athletes as a result of this pandemic.

The second observation concerns the legitimate opinion that the future of women’s soccer will go from saving the interest of the football men, recovery from Linari, but felt more and more times from different professionals, especially journalists and reporters. From this point of view there should be no need to emphasize that Orobica, Essex and Florentia Chianti are in Series for achievements on the field, meaning playing, winning and losing games. In sports, for sports lovers, these “special” should still count for something.
In the future, we will continue to play, lose and win games, with the usual passion.

For our part, we are not so sure that “dress by club male” is the only way to promote women’s football. In Europe, there are major championships which, next to the large male clubs there are great women’s clubs, contributing to the spectacle and the creation of community and the narratives, where the difference is a value.
We try to give our contribution to the development of women’s football, in the most serious possible, and investing a lot of resources exclusively in the name of a passion, as many of the players who know us well know. Let’s try to be not only a testimony of the past of our sport, made of generosity, fairness and tenacity, but also to be a tool for the future, that will have to be made of values, sustainability and professionalism.

It seems to us that they are statements unfortunate of this kind, which indicate as the biggest limitation of women’s football is in the first place within us, when we do not believe in our strength, collective, or do we forget who has supported the movement up to today. Elena Linari with these phrases offend the work of people who for years live women’s football is putting their passion and their resources before anything else. And this we are sorry”.

Not long to wait for the response, via Instagram, of the Linari: “I Summarize in this brief statement, my thoughts related to the statements of the radio that I did on Friday night live at TMW Radio, during the transmission TuttoCalcioFemminile.
Anyone who knows me knows that I have always favored the Facts, Benefits and Values to the chat, especially those on the mass media. I have never liked, and researched the role and popularity on social media, or similar means, but I’ve always preferred to spit blood on the pitch in the respect of the fans, of the company and of the mesh that I have the dress, regardless of the recognition or popularity that they had. I was born in the generation where women’s football was not that of the logos of famous, of the enormous structures and the importance of the media. Therefore, I know deeply the value and the invaluable work that the club is a “family owned” and considered less known, have done in these decades. The current development of the women’s soccer rests on the solid foundations laid by the small reality calls Mozzanica, Torres, AGSM Verona, Turin, ACF Firenze and Brescia, to name just a few, where the global effort was generally made of entrepreneurs passionate about but at the same time visionary.
And it is the same commendable passion and genuineness that is contraddistinguendo in recent years, the work of reality, still totally in pink as Tavagnacco, Pink Bari, Orobica, Florence and Naples Female.
I apologize to all those who have been abused or witnessed by my words, but as you can clearly see from the radio recording, my tones were not in the slightest disparaging, let alone presumptuous.
To all those who have preferred to spend 5 minutes of their time to write about the social network, even malice free in a superficial way, I want to mention that it would have been more useful to listen carefully in this case, because the tone of my statements you would have better clarified my true position.
Anyone who knows me really knows, the person that won the la Liga with Atletico Madrid is the same person that you sbucciava knees in the courts of the province, with the mesh of the ACF Firenze.
I know my roots…”.
