The development of Google Messages continues swimmingly: after the introduction of the support RCS in Italy, in fact, the developers of Mountain View have continued to invest their time to develop new features.

The news currently in the testing phase have been found inside the latest dogfood build, which is a special release of the app (v6.2.031) not intended for public release but, however, recently analyzed by XDA Developers with the inevitable teardown of the apk.

The changes are not yet visible, but are anticipated by the many strings of code embedded in the build. In summary, here’s what awaits us:

  • Encryption end-to-end to RCS: Google is developing and testing the support encryption end-to-end for sending messages mode RCS. In the case of a poor connection – it reads in the code – the messages will be sent without encryption, and you will automatically switch to SMS.
  • Integration Google Fi: Big G think about an integration with Google Fi, the telecommunication service MVNO owner that may soon make its debut inside of Messages with the ability to synchronize messages, calls and audio via the Google account.
  • Backup & Restore: the strings suggest, finally, the possible arrival of a new feature that will allow you to perform backup and recovery of messages on the cloud of Google.

The novelty, as mentioned, are not publicly available and it is not yet clear when it will be released in a stable release. In case you would like to try it anyway this version, to follow you can find the download link of the APK.
