We could define Statespace a society of “athletic trainers for gamers“: there is in 2017, and from 2018 offers Aim Lab, a “virtual gym” that serves to improve their ability to aim, above all, work on your weaknesses. The game, so to speak, is on Steam for free, and is formally in beta stage for a couple of years – “and it will remain there for as long as it takes”, say the developers. Developers, however, come from the academic world: they are a group of neuroscientists, no less, of the New York University. The purpose of the whole operation is very ambitious and aims to bring a level of insight and training into the world of gaming has never seen. But given the constant evolving of the phenomenon of esports, it was only a matter of time.

In addition to providing a “training ground” for their aims, Statespace want to measure and understand every single detail of the player – average response time, ability to recognize and point targets by position on the screen, and much more. In the next few months, should get a new application called the Academy, which will collaborate with some of the best streamer on the square (including KingGeorge for Rainbow Six Siege, SypherPK for Fortnite, Valkia for Overwatch, Drift0r Call Of Duty, and Launders for CS:GO) that will provide tutorial advanced and tailored to each player. Always Statespace is also Cognitive Combine: a system of analysis and determination of the skill of each player regardless of the game you are using.

Statespace has just received $ 15 million in a new round of funding. The goal is growth: the company wants to launch Aim Lab is also on Xbox, mobile and PlayStation, continue to expand their headcount with recruitment strategic and add support to about 400 new games next month.

The whole operation may seem an exaggeration, especially for someone who is not very accustomed to gaming, but the figures speak for themselves: Statespace boasts 2 million registered users and 500,000 monthly active users. Among other things, the technology that the company uses to assess the cognitive abilities of each player can have applications also in other fields, far more serious, and if you want important: for example, is exploring the possibility of applying it to an application that aid the rehabilitation of stroke patients.
