Samsung unveiled the Smart TV QLED The Terrace“, a new series specifically developed foroutdoor use. In composing this range are three models with a diagonal 55″ (55LST7T), 65″ (65LST7T) and 75″ (75LST7T). The panels are all LCD Ultra HD type GOES with Quantum Dot backlighting: Full LED Array Local Dimming (HERE our study on the technology).

The construction is obviously different than the other TV QLED range 2020 (HERE are all the details). The chassis is made of metal for sturdiness. All models are certified IP55 and can, therefore, withstand dust and splashing water (small amounts that end up incidentally on the products). Also the remote control is designed to withstand the harshest environmental conditions. The One Remote is the same control unit silver that accompanies the QLED TV high-end. Here you add the certification IP56.

The panels are fitted with anti-glare treatment that makes them more suitable to counter the presence of strong sources of natural light. The technical specifications speak of Motion Rate 240 , and then the possibility to apply the interpolation of the bike to improve (as well as to increase the fluidity) of the yield of moving images. The refresh rate of the panels is set at 100/120 Hz. With regard to the backlight, Samsung measure the performance in terms of Direct Full Array 16x, a figure that takes into account the backlight control areas, the contribution provided by the treatment anti-glare and technologies to increase the contrast ratio.

The Terrace support videos in HDR formats HDR10, HDR10+ metadata, dynamic and HLG. The data that measures performance is the Quantum HDR 32x that takes the form of peaks of about 2,000 cd/m2 – nits. We expect that the remarkable power of the backlight lathes also useful in SDR (dynamic range standard) to counter the natural light. The viewing angle should be wider than the panels must BE conventional technology Wide Viewing Angle.

As with all of the QLED is declared as a volume color (HERE we explain what it is and why it is important) relative to the 100% color space DCI-P3. In common with the range of 2020 is also the possibility to use the function the Adaptive Picture, developed to adapt brightness and contrast according to the light detected by the specific sensors integrated in the TV (more details are available HERE). For gaming enthusiasts we highlight, instead, the Real Game Enhancer+, a series of automated approaches to reduce the latency in the controls (input lag) and phenomena such as “tearing” and “stuttering”.

The Smart TV is obviously based on Tizen and offers almost all the functions that have already been announced on the other QLED 2020. We find, therefore, Ambient Mode+, TV Plus, Multi View, Tap View, and support for screen readers Bixby, Alexa and Google Assistant. The connectivity provides a budget that is not conventional. We refer in particular to a receiver for HDBase-T integrated, useful to convey HDMI signals (apparently up to the resolution Ultra HD at 30 Hz) on an Ethernet cable. A bay, called the Media Bay, located on the back, then allows you to accommodate a dongle like Chromecast or Fire TV Stick to make sure that these devices are protected from the external agents. The dimensions of the compartment are 14 x 2.5 cm x 20 cm.

There are of course Wi-Fi ac dual-band, Bluetooth, a USB port, an RS-232 port on the 3.5 mm jack, an optical output, an Ethernet port, and three HDMI inputs. The functions of HDMI 2.1 support should include Auto Low Latency Mode, eARC and HFR (signals, Ultra HD up to 120 frames per second), even if the instructions on the manual online (the only ones that allow to retrieve this information) are not clear in some points shared with the whole of the range TV 2020. We therefore expect more confirmations relating to the HDMI 2.1.

We close with the audio section, consisting of two speakers of 20 W each, with support to Dolby Digital Plus. The prices are the following:

  • 55″: 3.499,99 dollars
  • 65″: 4.999,99 dollars
  • 75″: 6.499,99 dollars

The Terrace on arrival in the United States and Canada and come to Germany, Australia, New Zealand and other Countries in the course of the year. For now there are no precise indications concerning Italy.

The TV from outside you can match to The Terrace Soundbar (HW-LST70T), a soundbar designed with the same approach used for the near-homonyms televisions. We find, therefore, the certification IP55. The product measures 122 x 14 x 5.3 cm with a weight of 6.7 kilograms. The thickness has been reduced to facilitate the installation to the wall (the tool kit is supplied). Inside are placed the seven speaker with three tweeters and four mid-woofer that form a configuration of 3.1 channels (there is a dedicated central to the dialogues). The total power declared is equal to 210 W.

The soundbar supports the tracks in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. Among the features we mention that useful to eliminate the distortion and the mode dedicated to sports, movies, music, and spoken. The connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an optical digital input. The Terrace Soundbar can also play songs in the formats WAV, MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, AAC, ALAC, and AIFF. The list price is set at 1.199,99 dollars.
