There are several titles in hollywood, where space is at a threat, and the protagonists do anything to take away certain beings, large or small, far from Earth. But in reality, it is happening the opposite, with who is on the ISS (International Space Station) in just over two months has followed the progress of the pandemic from the point of view privileged over 400 km of height.

Now the astronauts are preparing to return; on April 17, the trio composed of Jessica Meir, Drew Morgan and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka will touch the ground after you have shared the ISS since last September. A touchdown different from the usual, until now, were humans more protected from the epidemic of Covid-19 even though they are well aware of the situation, as they themselves have confirmed in some recent interviews published by NASA.

It is very strange and a bit surreal for us to see everything, after being up here all the time and have seen what has happened to the earth – said Jessica Meir – We have the impression of going back on a planet completely different.

Curious to note, however, that the astronauts know that they, more than any other person in the world, what does it mean social distance, living away from their loved ones for several months and get used to a routine in a confined space. If you are talking about sports, for example, they are used to do it every day and not only to keep trained the muscles and the bones in the absence of gravity, but also for the mind.

Social contacts are very important, they speak continuously with your friends and family taking advantage of the classic video calls, but is in the every day activities which then fail to find the serenity necessary to compensate for the lack of the outside world. It certainly will be useful to their advice and you can be sure that there will be many others, not only from their just landed. In the meantime, NASA is at the forefront of combating the pandemic and in recent days has announced they have made available to their super computer, SGI Altix 512-processor, lens: the study of the data to search for cures and vaccine.

In the meantime, the ISS will be complete for about a week, with the new turn composed of the three astronauts Chris Cassidy, Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner that will reach the Space Station on the 9th of April, this Thursday. Who knows, maybe the planet will find on their return at the end of the year, we are optimistic!
