DXOMark: iPhone 11 Pro is square to the tenth place in the ranking of the front cameras

According to a full review of theiPhone 11 Pro Max published by DxOMark, the camera selfie 12-megapixel smartphone, and apparently that of the iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Pro, has got an overall score of 91 points.

One of the key improvements cited by DXOMark is the wide angle lens wider introduced with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. This makes it easier to fit more in the frame, while ensuring a focus and compositions consistent. The review also praises the bokeh effect of the camera on the front, stating that the new lens offers a focus excellent at most of the distances, with an extended depth of field that provides good focus for portraits and backgrounds of the group“.

Processing Smart HDR Apple “also ensures a good control of the highlights in bright light conditions,“ says DXOMark. However, there have been “some failures HDR” in some of the most difficult scenes. Compared to the iPhone XS iPhone 11 also offers improvements in the colors and the focus.

Also the video with the front camera of the iPhone 11 is a step forward, says the review, with the exposition and plot video both improvement compared to the iPhone XS.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max continues to be the most powerful for video exposure, thanks to the implementation of the HDR video on the front camera, which provides a dynamic range wide enough in most outdoor conditions. The plot of the video is improved compared to the XS to the Max, and, although the front cameras the Apple are not the best in this category, the addition of capturing 4K on the iPhone 11 Pro Max provides excellent details on the video.

Despite these improvements, however, the camera selfie on the iPhone 11 is positioned well below the competition. That is to say, DXOMark cites problems with white balance, noise visible, faces blurred at long distances and “distortion of the faces toward the edges of the frame“. Many of these problems appear more commonly in low-light environments, says the review.

The same problems of poor lighting also apply to video, with DXOMark that mentions “heavy noise and details scarce in the interior, and in low-light conditions“.

The iPhone 11 Pro, and theoretically, the iPhone 11, is placed in the tenth position in the test camera selfie of DXOMark with a score of 91. In comparison, the iPhone XS Max ranks in the 15th place with a score of 82.
