Apple has recently initiated a program of replacement of the Smart Battery Case designed for the iPhone XS, XS MAX and XR, after noting that some units may be defective.

The announcement was published in a support document on the company’s website (available in the SOURCE), which specifies that the affected models were produced between January and October 2019. Although Apple does not specify the units affected by the problem, these would seem to suffer from intermittent operation or total loss of the charging capability when connected to a power source.

When the Smart Battery Case work properly, the power is delivered first to your smartphone, subsequently to the housing to complete the charging. Without power, the case will proceed to charge the iPhone up to its exhaustion.

The owners of these types of cases for the iPhone XS, XS Max or XR which have one or more abnormal behaviors in the charging phase are invited to visit an Apple store or an Apple authorized service provider for a free replacement. Alternatively, users can also contact the Apple support. The company does know that this issue does not represent a risk to the safety of the users, in addition, defective units will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
