The repair program of the anti-reflective coating for the MacBook Pro remains active

Apple continues to authorize the repairs free of the screen for models MacBook and MacBook Pro, suitable with issues of anti-reflective coating up to four years after the date of purchase of the notebook concerned, said the company in an internal memo distributed to Apple authorized service providers this week.

The models that remain eligible for the repair program:

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, early 2015)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid-2015)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
  • MacBook (12-inch, early 2015)
  • MacBook (12-inch, early 2016)
  • MacBook (12-inch, early 2017)


Apple has not added any model of MacBook Pro or MacBook Air released in 2018 or later to the list of suitability at this time.

In his memo, obtained by MacRumors, Apple adds that the MacBook Pro models released in 2014 and earlier are no longer eligible for the program. Most of these units should be well over the window to cover the four years of the repair program, but maybe some were sold by retailers in a second time and were still eligible up to now.

Apple has started this repair program in October 2015, after some users of the MacBook and MacBook Pro have had issues with the anti-reflective coating that is consumed on the Retina display. Apple has never published the repair program on its website, opting instead to handle the matter in silence.

In the course of the years, the problems have led to an online petition with almost 5,000 signatures, a group of Facebook with more than 17,000 members and complaints in the support community of Apple, Reddit, and in forums MacRumors. Has been created a so-called Web site “Staingate” to share photos of the affected MacBook.
